Phasmophobia has introduced a Prestige system, offering players a way to reset their in-game progress in exchange for unique cosmetic rewards and a renewed challenge. This feature is available to players who reach level 100 and choose to reset their character's level, money, and equipment.
Earning experience points (XP) is central to progression in Phasmophobia. Completing contracts by identifying ghosts, gathering evidence, and fulfilling objectives grants XP, which players use to level up. Each level-up unlocks bonuses such as cash, new equipment, and access to more challenging maps and difficulty levels. The experience threshold required for each level increases as players advance.
Upon reaching level 100, players are presented with the option to Prestige. This action resets the player to level one, wipes all accumulated cash and unlocked equipment, and reverts the character to their starting gear. In return, players receive a new badge and ID card title, signifying their Prestige level. While difficulty settings, unlocked maps, and collected trophies are retained, players must re-earn their equipment and funds from scratch.
To initiate a Prestige, players must first reach level 100. They can then navigate to the main menu board and locate their player ID card in the upper-right corner. A blue 'Prestige' button will appear if the player is eligible. Confirming the Prestige action on subsequent prompts will reset the player's level to one, prefixed with a Roman numeral indicating the Prestige rank, such as "I-001" for the first Prestige.
Phasmophobia's Prestige system currently caps at level 20, denoted by "XX" preceding the player's level. After prestiging, players can level up to 3,999, with the Prestige option becoming available again at level 100. The maximum overall level achievable in the game is thus "XX-3999."
Each Prestige level grants specific rewards. The first 10 Prestige levels award new ID badges and ghosthunter titles, along with an additional loadout slot up to Prestige 10. Starting from Prestige 11, players receive animated versions of the badges and ID cards. For example, Prestige 1 grants the "Recruit Card 1" and "Recruit Badge 1," while Prestige 11 awards the "Recruit Card 2 (Animated)" and "Recruit Badge 2 (Animated)." These cosmetic rewards can be previewed in the 'Customization' menu before being unlocked.
The decision to Prestige is optional. Players can continue to progress to level 9,999 without prestiging. The system is designed to offer a persistent challenge and a sense of accomplishment for dedicated players who wish to experience the game's progression anew, albeit with enhanced cosmetic rewards.
