Phasmophobia's Tarot Card cursed objects present players with a supernatural game of chance, offering potent effects that can either aid or endanger investigations. A deck of these cards contains 10 random selections, potentially with duplicates, and drawing a card triggers a specific outcome for either the ghost or the players.

Most cards burn in the player's hand after being drawn, with different colors indicating their nature. However, one card, The Hanged Man, does not burn, and another, The Wheel of Fortune, has a burn color that signifies whether its effect is positive or negative. Players draw one card at a time, with no knowledge of what they've pulled until it's too late.

Understanding the Tarot Deck

The ten Tarot Cards and their associated effects and draw chances are as follows:

  • The Tower: With a 20% draw chance, this is one of the most common cards. It burns blue and doubles ghost activity for 20 seconds, which can be helpful for gathering evidence.
  • The Wheel of Fortune: Also possessing a 20% draw chance, this card's effect depends on its burn color. A red burn results in a 25% sanity loss, while a green burn grants a 25% sanity increase. Phasmophobia player draws The Wheel of Fortune card
  • The Fool: Burning light purple, this card has no inherent effect and initially mimics another Tarot card before revealing itself. It has a 17% normal draw chance, but during a hunt, every card drawn will be The Fool. A Tarot Card burns light purple in the player's hand, indicating its The Fool.
  • The Devil: Burning pink, The Devil has a 10% draw chance and triggers a ghost event near the player closest to the ghost, making it a potential source of jumpscares. Phasmophobia player draws the Devil card
  • Death: This card, burning purple, has a 10% chance of being drawn and initiates a cursed hunt, which is more aggressive and extends the duration of subsequent normal hunts. Phasmophobia player draws the Death card
  • The Hermit: With a 10% draw chance, this card burns cyan and traps the ghost in its favorite room for one minute. While trapped, the ghost can still hunt and trigger events, but this can be useful for identifying the ghost's room or collecting specific evidence. Phasmophobia player draws The Hermit card
  • The Sun: Burning yellow, The Sun sets the player's sanity to 100%. It is an uncommon card, with only a 5% draw chance. Phasmophobia player draws The Sun card
  • The Moon: The opposite of The Sun, The Moon burns white and reduces the player's sanity to 0%. It also has a 5% draw chance. Phasmophobia player draws The Moon card
  • The High Priestess: This card has a mere 2% draw chance but can revive a dead player at the spot they died. If multiple players are dead, it revives them in the order they joined the lobby. It can only resurrect one player per draw, even if drawn multiple times from the same deck. Phasmophobia player draws The High Priestess card
  • The Hanged Man: The rarest card with a 1% draw chance, The Hanged Man instantly kills the player who draws it. Phasmophobia player draws The Hanged Man card

Mitigating Tarot Card Risks

Phasmophobia offers a method to potentially circumvent the dire consequences of drawing The Death or The Devil cards. By taking the Tarot Card deck outside and standing at the threshold of an open exit door, facing inward, players can draw a card while positioned just inside the investigation area. Immediately backing out of the door during the draw animation, before the card burns, can alter the card's effect. If Death is drawn, the cursed hunt will still trigger, but the player will not be within the investigation area to directly face it, though the extended hunt duration for subsequent hunts will still apply. This trick also renders The Devil card's effects redundant. However, the consequences of all other cards, including the lethal The Hanged Man, remain active.
