Disney has released a significantly larger version of the iconic Pixar Ball to celebrate its 40th anniversary. The new 10-inch model, available now at the official Disney Store and online, dwarfs the previously available 4-inch iteration.
The Pixar Ball, also known as the Luxo Ball, first appeared in Pixar's 1986 short film "Luxo Jr." and has since become a ubiquitous symbol of the animation studio. It has featured in numerous Pixar films, video games, and shorts, with a recent appearance noted in "Toy Story 5."
Crafted from Thermoplastic Polyurethane (TPU), the same material commonly used for soccer ball casings, the 10-inch ball offers a more substantial feel. It is described as being slightly larger than a typical playground kickball. The product page on the Disney Store website indicates that this larger size makes it suitable for play, rather than solely for display.
Retailing for $19.99, the ball is designed for active use, though care should be taken not to jump on it, referencing the behavior of Luxo Jr. in the original short. This release follows a LEGO set featuring Luxo Jr. and the ball, which was made available last year and has been recommended for its build quality and appeal to Pixar fans.
