Sony's PlayStation Network (PSN) faced a significant outage today, leaving users unable to access digital games and various online services for several hours. The disruption coincided with issues affecting Amazon Web Services in the US-WEST-2 region, which began around 8:30 AM Eastern time. Although AWS reported the connectivity issues resolved approximately an hour later, PlayStation users continued to report persistent problems, extending beyond the U.S.

The outage impacted the open beta for the Sony-published exclusive, Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls, with the game's developer acknowledging the network difficulties for PS5 players. A statement from the game's official Twitter account indicated an ongoing investigation into the login and network issues.

At the time of reporting, Sony's official service status page displayed errors across all PlayStation network services. This included difficulties with launching games and applications, accessing network features, purchasing digital content, and streaming games. The affected platforms listed by Sony encompass the PS Vita, PS3, PS4, and PS5.

The timing of this service interruption is particularly sensitive, occurring just weeks after Sony's controversial decision to cease the release of new PS5 games on physical discs starting in January 2028. This announcement has already generated considerable backlash from fans, leading to widespread criticism online, a petition against the change, and a visible increase in negative commentary on Sony's official media channels. The PlayStation Network outage has further highlighted concerns about the reliance on digital-only access and the potential downsides of an all-digital future for gaming.
