Sony has officially announced the lineup of free games for PlayStation Plus Essential subscribers for September 2026. The selection includes the retro-inspired RPG Chained Echoes, the World War II shooter Sniper Elite: Resistance, the physics sandbox Wobbly Life, and the recently released baseball simulation MLB The Show 26. These titles will be available for download starting September 1.

Chained Echoes, developed by Umami Tiger, is a 16-bit style, turn-based role-playing game set in a world of fantasy creatures, magic, and mechs. Players embark on a journey across the continent of Valandis to end a war between three kingdoms. The game is described as story-driven and is estimated to take 30-40 hours to complete. A notable feature is that all enemies are visible on the map, avoiding random encounters.

Sniper Elite: Resistance, the latest installment in Rebellion's series, transports players to World War II. Taking place concurrently with Sniper Elite 5, the game focuses on the French Resistance. It promises the series' signature sniping mechanics, stealth gameplay, and tactical third-person combat, highlighting covert operations deep within occupied France. The game is also expected to feature the series' characteristic slow-motion X-ray kill cam.

For players seeking a more lighthearted experience, Wobbly Life offers a colorful, open-world physics sandbox. Developed by RubberBandGames, it supports online and local co-op play and features various jobs, mini-games, and story missions. The game has garnered significant positive reception on Steam, with nearly 18,000 Overwhelmingly Positive reviews.

MLB The Show 26, which launched in March, offers an immersive baseball simulation experience. The 'Road to the Show' mode allows players to guide a created player from high school through college and into the major leagues, with the inclusion of 11 new college teams. The 'Diamond Dynasty' mode enables players to build their dream team and introduces a new Red Diamond player tier. PlayStation Plus members can also claim the Jump Start Bundle, which includes several packs and a choice pack to aid in player customization and team building.

All four September titles will be available until October 5. Subscribers who have not yet claimed them can still download August's free games—Big Walk, Dying Light 2 Stay Human, and Signalis—through August 31.

PlayStation Plus Essential, the entry-level tier of Sony's subscription service, provides online multiplayer access, monthly free games for PS4 and PS5, cloud storage, and discounts. The service saw a price increase across all tiers in May, with monthly, three-month, and annual subscriptions now costing $10.99, $27.99, and $79.99 respectively.
