Sony's PlayStation Studios are gearing up for a slate of new releases, though the timeline for many projects remains uncertain. As of July 2026, only one first-party title, Housemarque's Saros, has launched this year. A significant shift in Sony's strategy was the decision to cease disc production in January 2028, raising questions about the future of physical game releases.

Recent studio closures include Bluepoint Games, the developer behind the Demon's Souls and Shadow of the Colossus remakes, and the reportedly short-lived Dark Outlaw Games.

Naughty Dog

Naughty Dog is focusing on its new intellectual property, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet. This space-faring adventure, set to have retro '80s aesthetics, marks the studio's first new IP since 2013. Starring Tati Gabrielle as bounty hunter Jordan A. Mun, the game is rumored to feature a combat system deeper than previous Naughty Dog titles. The score is being handled by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross. While a cinematic trailer was released in 2024, gameplay details are scarce, leading to speculation about a potential 2027 release. Studio head Neil Druckmann has also teased a second, unannounced project, fueling rumors about The Last of Us Part 3 or a new Uncharted entry.

Santa Monica Studio

Santa Monica Studio has revealed its next game, God of War Laufey. This title will place Kratos' wife, Faye, at the center of the narrative, expanding the Norse saga into the afterlife and incorporating deities from various mythologies. The gameplay is expected to blend the heavier combat of recent God of War titles with the faster pace of the original Greek-era games. Following God of War Ragnarok's release in late 2022, a release for Laufey is anticipated in the coming years.

Insomniac Games

Marvel's Wolverine is slated for a September 15, 2026, release on PS5. Insomniac's latest exclusive is described as a more linear experience than its open-world Spider-Man titles, though it will retain the studio's signature fluid action style. This launch follows a three-year gap since Insomniac's last major release. Despite earlier speculation based on leaked data, a Venom game is not expected to precede Wolverine's release.

Sucker Punch Productions

Sucker Punch released Ghost of Yotei on October 2, 2025, following up on 2020's Ghost of Tsushima. The studio also launched Legends, the cooperative multiplayer component for the Ghost series. Given their recent output, significant new projects from Sucker Punch are not expected soon, despite persistent rumors of Infamous remakes or remasters.

Guerrilla Games

Guerrilla Games is likely working on the third installment in the Horizon trilogy, following the 2023 Burning Shores DLC for Horizon: Forbidden West. The five-year gap between Horizon Zero Dawn and Forbidden West suggests that news on the next chapter could be forthcoming. Before that, Guerrilla will release Horizon: Hunters Gathering, a tactical three-player cooperative action game with a stylized, cartoon-like art direction, though no release date has been announced.

Housemarque

Following the April release of Saros, Housemarque is expected to provide ongoing post-launch support, similar to the updates seen for Returnal, which included a challenge tower mode and co-op. Reports suggest Sony is reverting to a console-exclusive strategy, potentially meaning Saros will not come to PC. Sales for Saros have reportedly been lukewarm.

Bungie

Though not a PlayStation Studio, Sony's acquisition of Bungie in 2022 is under scrutiny. Development for Destiny 2 has scaled back, and significant layoffs have impacted the studio, primarily affecting the Destiny team. Bungie released Marathon in March 2026 to critical acclaim, but player numbers have not matched expectations, raising questions about the future of its live-service offerings.

Haven Studios

Haven Studios' multiplayer shooter Fairgames, initially planned for 2025, is still in development with no release date. Studio founder Jade Raymond departed the project last year. The online heist game, first revealed in a 2023 cinematic trailer, has seen little new information, and industry rumors suggest a potential rebrand with the patented title "Break In."

Bend Studio

Bend Studio, quiet since the 2019 release of Days Gone, is working on a new game that will expand upon its open-world systems but will not be a continuation of Deacon St. John's story. The studio faced layoffs impacting 30% of its team, and a reported live-service game was scrapped. Details about the new project remain scarce.

Media Molecule

After the 2020 release of Dreams and significant layoffs in 2024, Media Molecule has ended live support for the game to transition it into a self-sustaining platform. The developer's next project has not yet been announced.

Team Asobi

Team Asobi delivered the acclaimed platformer Astro Bot in 2024 and has continued to provide updates. Given the game's critical and commercial success, another Astro installment is a possibility, featuring more obscure PlayStation characters.

Polyphony Digital

Polyphony Digital, known for the Gran Turismo series for over 25 years, is likely working on its next racing simulation. With Gran Turismo 7 released approximately four and a half years ago, a new title could be announced soon.

San Diego Studio

San Diego Studio continues its tradition of releasing an annual installment of MLB The Show. The 2026 entry was released in March, suggesting a similar schedule for the next iteration next Spring.

Firesprite

Firesprite, which recently developed the PSVR 2 title Horizon: Call of the Mountain, is now working on Until Dawn 2, a sequel to Supermassive's horror game, set for a 2027 release. This follows reports that a live-service Twisted Metal game was canceled.

teamLFG

Formed in 2025 from a Bungie spin-off, teamLFG is developing a new team-based action game that blends elements of fighting games, platformers, MOBAs, and life sims. The project is described as taking place in a "lighthearted, comedic world set in a brand-new, mythic, science-fantasy universe," but is not expected to be revealed soon.

With few immediate release dates on the horizon for first-party titles, the latter half of 2026 and beyond appear relatively open for PS5 exclusives, a situation likely influenced by the anticipation surrounding Grand Theft Auto 6's November release.
