Pokémon has teamed up with the J. League, the governing body for Japan's professional soccer leagues, to assign each of its 60 clubs a unique Pokémon mascot. This extensive partnership aims to link the popular franchise with the sport, with a specific focus on the theme of evolution.
From August 7 through the end of September, attendees at home fixtures will receive "Evolution!" themed eco-bags. These bags will feature Pikachu, designated as the national team's mascot, alongside the specific Pokémon partner for each club. The collaboration spans all three divisions of the J. League.
Notable pairings include the evolution line of Charmander, Charmeleon, and Charizard for Kashima Antlers, and Froakie, Frogadier, and Greninja for Machida Zelvia. Fans of the Fire-type starter from the Johto region can align with Nagoya Grampus, which is represented by Cyndaquil, Quilava, and Typhlosion. Other featured evolution lines include Weedle, Kakuna, and Beedrill for Avispa Fukuoka, and Mudkip, Marshtomp, and Swampert for V-Varen Nagasaki.
The J. League has indicated that the full list of clubs and their associated Pokémon evolution chains is available for fans to explore, encouraging them to find a team that aligns with their favorite Pokémon. Further details about the partnership can be found on the official J. League website.
