Owners of the Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 ports of Pokémon FireRed and Pokémon LeafGreen will soon be able to transfer their collected creatures to Pokémon Home. Support for the Gen 1 remakes is slated to arrive in October 2026, according to a recent announcement. This update will also include a free Celebi for players who complete their in-game Pokédex.

Once linked, players can move Pokémon from FireRed and LeafGreen to Pokémon Home, and subsequently to other compatible Pokémon titles. It is important to note that any Pokémon transferred from these remakes to another game cannot be moved back to FireRed or LeafGreen. Conversely, Pokémon from other games cannot be transferred into FireRed or LeafGreen.

The free Celebi will be awarded to players upon registering the full Pokédex within FireRed or LeafGreen, and then connecting the game to Pokémon Home. This reward does not require the transfer of any Pokémon from the remakes to Home.

Beyond the FireRed and LeafGreen integration, the October update will also enhance the Pokémon Home experience for its Premium subscribers. The maximum number of Pokémon that can be deposited will increase from 6,000 to 9,000. Additionally, Pokémon originally caught in Pokémon Go with a Safari Ball will be transferable to Pokémon Home for the first time, though the ball type will change to a Strange Ball upon transfer.

In related news, the Nintendo 3DS application Pokémon Bank is scheduled for shutdown on February 25, 2027, at 10 p.m. EST. Following this closure, trainers will no longer be able to transfer Pokémon from Pokémon Bank to Pokémon Home.

Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen were re-released on the Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 earlier in 2026.
