Niantic is celebrating a decade of Pokémon Go with a special in-game event, the "10th Anniversary Party," running from July 4 to July 6. This event brings back several costumed Pokémon, significantly increases the chances of encountering shiny versions of some species, and offers substantial in-game bonuses for players.
The event prominently features the return of shiny Gimmighoul, which will be available with an increased shiny rate from July 4 until July 31. Gimmighoul will also don a special "10th Anniversary Coin" costume, a cosmetic likely exclusive to this celebration period. Furthermore, Venusaur, Charizard, and Blastoise, when evolved during the event, will learn their respective legacy charged moves: Frenzy Plant, Blast Burn, and Hydro Cannon.
Players can expect a 4x increase in XP and Stardust earned from catching Pokémon. Additionally, event-themed Pokémon are more likely to appear in their shiny forms. This includes Pokémon like Bulbasaur, Charmander, Squirtle, Pikachu, Eevee, and Wurmple, all sporting party hats, as well as Caterpie and Voltorb (including Hisuian Voltorb).
A paid Timed Research, priced at $1.99, is also available for those who wish to participate further. To gain all the benefits from this research, players must complete its tasks before the event concludes. The research tasks include catching and throwing Pokémon, spinning PokéStops, evolving Pokémon, and earning XP and Stardust. Completing these tasks rewards players with items such as Incense, Incubators, Rocket Radars, Premium Battle Passes, Poffins, Max Mushrooms, Lucky Eggs, and Star Pieces. The ultimate rewards for this Timed Research include an encounter with Gimmighoul (wearing the 10th Anniversary coin costume), 10,000 Stardust, and a Super Incubator.
Field Research tasks obtained by spinning PokéStops during the event may offer encounters with party hat-wearing Bulbasaur, Charmander, or Squirtle, or a Pikachu with a cake hat for powering up Pokémon 10 times. The Sobble Community Day will also coincide with the start of the anniversary event on July 4, running from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. local time, offering additional bonuses for players to take advantage of.
