Pokémon Go is ushering in a mix of fire and ice with its Summer Marathon: Arctic Embers event. This limited-time celebration offers players the chance to encounter a variety of Fire and Ice-type Pokémon, complete event-exclusive research tasks, and participate in the Summer Marathon Timed Research quest. A major highlight of the event is the debut of Shiny Snom and Shiny Frosmoth.
Summer Marathon Timed Research
The 'Summer Marathon Timed Research' quest is central to the event's activities. Players will need to complete various exploration goals before the event concludes on Monday, August 10th, at 8 PM local time. The single-step research requires exploring distances of 5km, 10km, 21km, and 42km, with each milestone rewarding 4,200 XP. Completing the entire research line will yield the Marathon Visor Pikachu.
Event-Exclusive Research Tasks and Bonuses
In addition to the Timed Research, event-exclusive field research tasks are available through spinning PokéStops or Gyms. These tasks can reward encounters with Ponyta, Slugma, Snover, or Vanillite. Spinning a PokéStop for the first time during the event will grant a Rare Candy. The event also increases the chances of encountering shiny versions of Ponyta, Slugma, Snover, and Vanillite, alongside the new Shiny Snom and Shiny Frosmoth.
Wild Spawns and Egg Hatches
The Summer Marathon: Arctic Embers event features increased spawns of Vulpix, Alolan Vulpix, Growlithe, Swinub, Snorunt, Litwick, Cubchoo, and Litleo. Certain Pokémon will spawn more frequently on specific days throughout the event. Any 5km egg obtained during this period has a chance to hatch Pokémon such as Sneasel, Darumaka, Galarian Darumaka, Sizzlipede, or Snom.
Go Fest: Summer Edition and Go Pass
The Go Pass feature is active from Tuesday, August 4th, to Monday, August 10th, at 8 PM local time, with rewards needing to be claimed by Wednesday, August 12th, at 8 PM local time. Players have access to a Free Track of rewards, which includes Stardust, XP, Rare Candy, Ultra Balls, and themed Pokémon encounters. An optional Deluxe Track, available for purchase, offers enhanced rewards such as improved Major Milestones, Incense, Silver Pinap Berries, Rare Candy XL, and additional Pokémon encounters. Upgrading to the Deluxe Track costs $4.99 USD (or local equivalent), with an option to purchase it with six ranks pre-completed for $6.99 USD. The Free Track provides major milestones such as double XP from spinning PokéStops and halved egg hatch distance. The Deluxe Track enhances these to triple XP and quartered egg hatch distance for eggs incubated during the event.
