Postal 2 Redux, a comprehensive reimagining of the 2003 first-person shooter, has successfully secured funding through a Kickstarter campaign and is slated for release in the first quarter of 2027. The project, a collaboration between original developer Running With Scissors, Flat2VR, Team Beef, and Impact Reality, will be rebuilt in Unity 6 and is targeting PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and virtual reality platforms.
The Kickstarter campaign reached its funding goal within a single day, paving the way for the game's development. Postal 2 Redux aims to bring the notoriously controversial title into the modern era with significant technical and gameplay enhancements. The game will once again place players in the role of the Postal Dude as he navigates the fictional town of Paradise, Arizona, encountering a series of escalating and often absurd events.
Impact Reality CEO and co-founder Jasmine Uniza described Postal 2 Redux as a "sandbox in the truest sense," emphasizing player agency in shaping the narrative and gameplay experience. The world is designed to be reactive, ensuring that playthroughs remain unique. A notable feature returning is Champ, the Postal Dude's canine companion, who has been upgraded with new interactive possibilities, including the ability to pet, command, or even weaponize the animal.
Development under Unity 6 brings a host of technical improvements. These include upgraded textures, enhanced lighting, refined materials, and advanced shaders. The game will also feature optimized level streaming for smoother traversal of Paradise and an overhaul of non-player characters to improve their intelligence and responsiveness to player actions and environmental changes. Furthermore, combat mechanics have been rebalanced, and a new physics system has been integrated into the game.
IGN's original review of Postal 2 in 2003 awarded it a 5.5 out of 10. The upcoming Redux version aims to provide a fresh perspective on the cult classic when it launches in 2027.
