Level-5 has announced a remake of Professor Layton and the Curious Village, the debut title in the beloved puzzle-adventure series. The remake is slated for release in 2027, coinciding with the franchise's 20th anniversary. This new version will feature updated 3D rendering and high-resolution graphics, bringing the classic DS experience to a new generation of players.

The original Professor Layton and the Curious Village was first released for the Nintendo DS in 2007, with a wider global release following in 2008. It introduced players to Professor Hershel Layton and his apprentice, Luke Triton, as they solved mysteries through a series of engaging puzzles. The game's narrative follows the pair as they investigate the village of St. Mystere in search of the legendary Golden Apple, encountering numerous puzzles posed by the local residents along the way.

The remake has been confirmed for Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, and Windows PC. While a specific release date has not been provided, the original game's February 15 launch in Japan suggests a potential February release window for the remake. The visual style of the remake is expected to align with that of the upcoming Professor Layton and the New World of Steam, which is also set to launch in 2026 and marks the series' first original title since 2013.
