PlayStation Plus members can now experience the opening hour of IO Interactive's James Bond adventure, 007 First Light, thanks to a new free trial. The announcement was made by the game's official X account, indicating that the trial will likely showcase the game's opening mission and its acclaimed tutorial sequence.

A Tutorial Unlike Most

007 First Light's tutorial has been praised for its innovative approach. Instead of relying on traditional pop-up menus and exhaustive explanations, the game integrates gameplay tutorials directly into the narrative. Players learn Bond's skills within the context of his in-universe training montage, which features various set pieces like car races, combat scenarios, and infiltration missions. This method aims to provide a more immersive experience by allowing players to learn alongside the character.

Sequel Prospects and Continued Support

Following its release in May, 007 First Light has achieved significant commercial success, selling over 4 million copies by August and establishing itself as one of the best-selling games of the year. Despite this success, the future development of a sequel has seen some conflicting statements from Amazon Game Studios. Initially, there was uncertainty regarding IO Interactive's involvement, with Amazon Game Studios boss Jeff Gattis suggesting that future Bond games might be developed internally. However, Gattis later clarified that given First Light's success, IO Interactive would likely be involved in developing a sequel.

IO Interactive has continued to support 007 First Light with post-launch content, including a free DLC that added a new mission, New Game Plus, and time trials. This ongoing support suggests a continued interest in the franchise's interactive future.
