Sony has released a new system software update for the PlayStation 5, version 26.06-14.00.00, introducing several new features and adjustments. The update enables Enhance PSSR Image Quality as a default setting, a feature exclusive to the PS5 Pro. This setting is designed to provide a sharper and clearer visual experience, even in games that support the previous version of PSSR, and can be disabled by users.
Voice chat has also seen an enhancement with the addition of a "Display Names" option. This feature allows players to see who is speaking in a voice chat by displaying a speaker indicator on their screen, which can be customized in terms of placement.
The Community Activity widget in the Welcome Hub has been updated to include "Trending Now" and "Top 10" views. "Trending Now" highlights ten multiplayer games or modes that are currently surging in popularity, intended to surface games with significant updates or new releases. The "Top 10" view displays the ten most popular games in the last week within a user's country or region, offering insight into community engagement.
Additionally, the update includes changes to accessory settings for PS5 and PS5 Pro consoles in certain regions. Specifically, disabling Bluetooth via Settings > Accessories > General > Advanced Settings will now prevent the console from entering rest mode and will disable HDMI Device Link. Sony notes that this function is intended for managing controller connections in specific environments like esports venues.
The update also promises general improvements to system software performance and stability. Meanwhile, the PS4 has also received a system software update, version 14.00, which solely focuses on improving system software performance and stability.
