To commemorate the 30th anniversary of the seminal first-person shooter, id Software and MachineGames have released "Dawn of the Machine," a free 19-level campaign for the 2021 remaster of Quake. The new content is available now at no additional cost to owners of the remastered game.
The "Dawn of the Machine" campaign places players in the role of Ranger, who finds himself trapped in a time loop. To survive, players must solve puzzles, engage new enemies, and utilize a fresh arsenal of weapons, including an axe. The campaign also introduces a new soundtrack, new deathmatch maps, and additional achievements.
MachineGames has incorporated features designed to enhance replayability. The narrative structure of the time loop allows players to revisit levels, uncovering new paths, hidden secrets, and opportunities to acquire upgrades that strengthen Ranger. This approach encourages players to explore the levels thoroughly and discover their full potential.
MachineGames, known for its acclaimed recent Wolfenstein titles, has a well-documented history with the Quake franchise, often citing its influence on their own games. The studio is also developing Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, an immersive first-person adventure. Their expertise in both fast-paced FPS combat and intricate puzzle design makes them a fitting choice for developing new content for Quake, blending intense action with thoughtful gameplay challenges.
