Craig Burnatowski, known for voicing Albert Wesker in the Resident Evil 4 remake and Zeno in Resident Evil Requiem, has had his appearance canceled at the upcoming Fantasy & Magic Con following allegations of abuse. The decision by the convention organizers came after a woman, who identified herself as a former romantic partner, posted claims on social media detailing alleged mental, emotional, and physical abuse during their year-long relationship.
The accuser, streamer and artist Monica Denizen, stated on social media that Burnatowski physically harmed her on two separate occasions, with one injury reportedly still requiring medical attention. She expressed her intention to speak out despite potential backlash, stating, "I won’t keep silent and protect my abuser."
Fantasy & Magic Con initially indicated that they would wait to establish facts before making a decision. However, the convention later announced Burnatowski's removal as a guest, citing the public emergence of the reports. "We are committed to ensuring that Fantasy & Magic Con remains an event where all attendees, guests, and partners can feel comfortable and safe," the convention stated in a notice to attendees. All ticket purchases for Burnatowski's autograph and photo opportunities will be automatically refunded.
Burnatowski has since issued a statement on his Instagram account, denying the allegations. He stated, "I believe consent and mutual respect are at the core of every relationship. I behave that way every day of my life. I am devastated by the unfounded accusations that were levelled at me over the last two days by an individual with whom I had a one-year romantic relationship." He further claimed that at no point did they have an aggressive or uncomfortable encounter and that she never indicated feeling uncomfortable, expressing shock at her claims and questioning their validity.
Burnatowski's roles in the Resident Evil series include voicing the iconic antagonist Albert Wesker in the 2023 remake of Resident Evil 4 and the villain Zeno in the recent Resident Evil Requiem. The character of Wesker is also expected to feature in the upcoming Resident Evil: Code Veronica remake.
