Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy, a new spin-off starring Sophia, offers a self-contained narrative set years before the events of A Plague Tale: Requiem. Despite its stand-alone nature and focus on action combat, a post-credits scene significantly alters its implications for the franchise's future.

The events of Resonance unfold 15 years prior to A Plague Tale: Innocence. However, the game's conclusion reveals that Sophia has been recounting her experiences to Amicia de Rune, the protagonist of the previous mainline titles. This framing device places the post-credits scene within the timeline of Requiem, with Amicia's appearance and injuries suggesting it occurs near the end of that game. A brief time jump in Requiem's final chapter, showing a healed Amicia and Sophia preparing for a journey following Hugo's death, sets the stage for a direct sequel.

This revelation builds upon Requiem's own post-credits scene, which depicted a baby afflicted with the Macula, the plague central to the series. Audio cues suggested a jump centuries into the future, potentially to a modern setting around 2150, aligning with the lore that the Macula reappears roughly every 800 years. A future game could thus explore a near-future setting.

Beyond setting up a continuation of Amicia and Sophia's story, the post-credits scene also teases potential spin-off games focused on Sophia. Amicia's inquiry about Sophia's first meeting with Arnaud, a character from Requiem, is met with Sophia's remark that it's a long story. This leaves ample room for future titles to explore the early relationship between these characters, filling in narrative gaps left by Requiem. With 15 years between the events of Resonance and Innocence, there is significant narrative space for Sophia's adventures as she evolves into the smuggler seen in Requiem, offering various exciting directions for Asobo Studio's future plans.

Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy is currently available on PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X.
