Retroid has officially announced pricing for its upcoming dual-screen handheld, the Retroid Pocket Duo. The device will be available in two configurations: a flagship model priced at $270 with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, and a more affordable Lite version with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage for $150. Both models are currently available for pre-order, though pre-order stock has sold out.
The Pocket Duo features a primary 5.5-inch 1080p AMOLED display, complemented by a secondary 4.5-inch 960p screen. Powering the handheld is a Qualcomm Dragonwing Q-7790 processor, and it runs Android 16, which provides access to Google Play Store titles alongside robust emulation capabilities for Nintendo DS, 3DS, and other retro gaming systems. Retroid advises users to obtain games legally, such as by dumping their own cartridges.
Both the Pocket Duo and Pocket Duo Lite will be offered in various color options, including GameCube purple, Game Boy greyish-white, clear blue, and atomic purple. While specific launch dates remain unannounced, the pricing positions the Retroid Pocket Duo as a competitive alternative to other dual-screen Android handhelds like the AYN Thor, which features a less powerful Snapdragon 865 in its $259 Lite model and a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 in its $329 base model.
Handheld gaming has seen a resurgence, with devices like the Nintendo Switch and Steam Deck leading the mainstream market. Devices such as the Retroid Pocket Duo cater to enthusiasts looking to emulate older systems, particularly those from the Nintendo DS and 3DS eras. Pre-orders for the Pocket Duo have already sold out, but the company typically releases units in waves, suggesting future availability for interested buyers.
