Rockstar Games is set to offer an extensive preview of Grand Theft Auto 6 through a timed exclusive on Netflix. The showcase, titled "Grand Theft Auto 6: An Extended Look," is scheduled to debut on Thursday, August 27, at 3 p.m. EDT. This marks a significant collaboration, with Rockstar Games choosing the streaming giant to present a more polished and focused glimpse of the highly anticipated title following two prior trailers and numerous leaks.
This extended preview will be available on Netflix for six hours. Viewers in different time zones can tune in as follows: 6 p.m. PDT on Thursday, August 27, in the west coast of North America; 4 p.m. BRT on Thursday, August 27, in Brazil; 8 p.m. BST on Thursday, August 27, in the U.K.; 9 p.m. CEST on Thursday, August 27, in western Europe; and 4 a.m. JST on Friday, August 28, in Japan, with 5 a.m. AEST on Friday, August 28, for the east coast of Australia.
The presentation is slated to run for 26 minutes. While Rockstar Games has not detailed the specific content beyond describing it as "the next evolution of the groundbreaking Grand Theft Auto series," a new preview was released by Dazed on Wednesday ahead of the Netflix special.
For those without a Netflix subscription, the content will become available on YouTube starting Thursday at 9 p.m. EDT. Netflix currently offers several subscription tiers, with prices ranging from $8.99 per month for the Standard with ads plan to $26.99 per month for the Premium plan. The streaming service does not officially offer free trials, though availability may vary by region.
Rockstar Games' decision to partner with Netflix, which boasts over 325 million subscribers, aims to maximize viewership for Grand Theft Auto 6. Brandon Riegg, VP of nonfiction series at Netflix, stated that "Grand Theft Auto reveals have become cultural moments in their own right" and that the company is honored to debut this next installment with Netflix members first, seeing it as a testament to Netflix becoming a platform for ambitious storytelling across all mediums.
Grand Theft Auto 6 is scheduled for release on November 19 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. Rockstar Games has expressed confidence in this release date and has not yet announced plans for other platform versions.
