Rockstar Games has officially responded to the significant leak of Grand Theft Auto VI gameplay footage that surfaced online last week. In a statement shared by the developer, the team described the unauthorized release of videos as "heartbreaking."
"We know that many of you have been waiting to hear from us regarding the events of the past week," the statement reads. "It would be an understatement to say that having videos of Grand Theft Auto VI gameplay leak in this way has been heartbreaking for our team, and this is obviously not how we intended for you to see the game after all this time."
The leaks emerged shortly before Rockstar's planned "Extended Look" presentation of Grand Theft Auto VI, which is scheduled to air on Netflix. The developer expressed apologies for the delay in sharing official content but emphasized their commitment to meeting player expectations. "We are very excited for everyone to see the extended look tomorrow," the statement continued. "It has taken longer than we wanted to get it ready, but as with everything we do know, we know we need to exceed your expectations, and we are determined to deliver at the level you expect and deserve."
Rockstar acknowledged that the leaks may have impacted the intended experience for some players due to spoilers but urged the community to await the official release on November 19. The developer also extended gratitude to the community for messages of support following the incident.
Grand Theft Auto VI is slated for release on November 19 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. The "Extended Look" stream is set to premiere tomorrow, August 27, at 12 p.m. PT and 3 p.m. ET exclusively on Netflix, with a YouTube upload to follow later the same day.
