Hideki Kamiya, director behind titles such as Resident Evil 2 and Bayonetta, remains optimistic about the possibility of reviving Scalebound, a massively multiplayer action role-playing game that was in development at PlatinumGames before its cancellation by Microsoft in 2017. Revealed at E3 2014 as an Xbox-exclusive, Scalebound featured a unique premise: players would control a lone hero who forms a powerful bond with a fearsome dragon companion.

Despite the project's cancellation and Kamiya's previous statement of not wanting to let players down again, he recently indicated to Video Games Chronicle that he would be open to revisiting the game if Microsoft expressed interest. "Well, no, but now's my opportunity to once again say that if they want to do it, let's make it happen!" Kamiya stated, also mentioning that Kento Koyama, CEO of Clover and a former PlatinumGames colleague, is willing to return for the project.

Kamiya shared that he recently reconnected with several former Scalebound staff members for a dinner. While the conversation wasn't solely focused on the canceled game, it did arise. He noted that the team fondly recalled the enjoyable aspects of working on Scalebound, acknowledging the difficult periods but finding gratification in the shared positive memories. "We all remembered how fun it was to work on Scalebound," Kamiya said. "Obviously, there were some tough times as well, but that fact that people still look back on that time with a lot of fun is something that I find very gratifying as the director of the project."

Drawing parallels to the long-awaited Okami sequel, which Kamiya also worked on and which eventually saw the light of day after many years, he expressed a belief in perseverance. "I strongly believe that if you want something strongly enough, you eventually find a way to make it happen," he asserted. This sentiment suggests that Kamiya is prepared to wait for the right opportunity for Scalebound to resurface, echoing his experience with Okami. Scalebound
