Wildgate, the sci-fi shooter developed by Moonshot Games and helmed by former StarCraft 2 lead designer Dustin Browder, is preparing for a shift in its development cycle. Approximately one year after its launch, the game is set to receive its final major update next month. Despite these changes, the game will not be shutting down entirely.
In a statement shared on Steam, Browder explained that "Despite all our attempts to bring new and more players into the game, Wildgate hasn’t found a large enough audience to sustain ongoing development." However, the game will continue to be playable, with a small team dedicated to maintaining servers and providing occasional updates. These will include bug fixes, balance adjustments, and small events that will largely repurpose existing content.
The upcoming update will also introduce features aimed at enhancing player experience and community engagement. Custom game options will be added, granting players more control over game rules and modes. To commemorate the game's one-year anniversary, players can expect new sprays, a new title, and other cosmetic items. The game's mode selection interface will also be revamped to offer clearer information about available matches, and seasonal events will continue to rotate as scheduled.
Regarding the development team, Browder indicated that no layoffs are currently planned. Instead, the team at Moonshot Games will redirect their focus to new research and development projects. Wildgate is currently available on Steam with a significant discount, allowing interested players to experience the game ahead of its final major update.
