Scream Operator: Haunted House Manager, a "cosy-spooky" theme park strategy sim from developer Japhet Interactive, will allow players to step into the role of a haunted house manager. The game challenges players to maximize chills and revenue by arranging scares and managing guest experiences.

By day, players will oversee guests as they move through the pre-show and board ride vehicles. During this phase, the goal is to generate "Immersion" and "Fear" points by triggering props and planned scares within each room of the attraction. As night falls, players can select randomized upgrades to enhance the dread and terror offered by their setup, with the aim of elevating a simple attraction into a more elaborate and terrifying experience.

The game's presentation is described as appealing, featuring a control panel with buttons, switches, and dials for managing gates, music, ambient sounds, and special effects, alongside indicators for maintenance issues like blocked rails and fuses. A core challenge highlighted by the developers is maintaining consistent power flow while simultaneously introducing new scares, such as holographic ghosts.

Designing for Dread

A significant focus of Scream Operator is the design of queueing areas. Developers Japhet Interactive note that while long lines are beneficial for business, they can negatively impact guest ratings if boredom sets in before the ride begins. Players must use all available tools to keep guests entertained and terrified even while they wait, ensuring their immersion is not ruined before the main attraction commences.

Scream Operator: Haunted House Manager is slated for an early 2027 release. A playable demo is scheduled to arrive this Halloween, providing players with an early opportunity to sample the management of frights and fear.
