A dedicated Silent Hill fan is undertaking the development of a native PC port for Silent Hill: Downpour, a 2012 entry in the survival horror series. The project, helmed by an individual known as Indie_RU, seeks to not only make the game playable on modern PCs with features like uncapped framerates and higher resolutions but also to restore significant content that was cut from the original release.

Silent Hill: Downpour, developed by Vatra Games, was released exclusively for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The game featured a more open-world design than its predecessors, incorporating numerous sidequests alongside its main narrative about a prison escapee grappling with guilt. While not universally acclaimed, it is often remembered for its more atmospheric elements and some of its more engaging side stories, such as one involving following colored ribbons to uncover a mystery.

The fan-made PC port promises to go beyond simple compatibility. The restoration efforts include bringing back cut dialogue, notes, and even entire sidequests. Notably, the project aims to restore a boss battle against the "Monocle Man," a character who only appeared in a cameo in the final game despite being featured in early promotional materials. Additionally, players will reportedly have access to previously unavailable weapons, such as the Bogeyman's hammer.

While no exact release date has been provided, the developer anticipates the finished port could arrive around September or October. This timeframe places its potential launch alongside that of Silent Hill: Townfall, a new installment developed by Screenager Interactive. The ongoing fan efforts highlight a continued interest in the Silent Hill franchise, with players eager for both new entries and enhanced access to its past titles.
