Players need not worry about the fate of the beaver featured in Soulframe's recent TennoCon 2026 gameplay reveal. Developers at Digital Extremes have confirmed that the animal, which was shown being struck by an arrow, will be safe.
The Warsongs Fable segment of the demo showcased the new character Bayor and the corrupted Vadagar Pact, but a memorable moment involved players briefly controlling a beaver. In this sequence, the beaver rescues a baby from soldiers by carrying it downriver. This interactive segment, which occurs during the reveal of the Warsongs title, was designed to be more engaging than a simple cutscene.
According to lead designer Scott McGregor, the beaver's inclusion was a natural extension of the game's animal-centric themes. "The game has such a large selection of animals and art that we can use and add to the gameplay," McGregor stated. He also indicated that playing from different animal perspectives will be a significant feature, with the beaver being just the beginning of more playable animal roles as the game develops.
A prototype featuring a rat in Soulframe's world also exists, though its integration into upcoming content is unconfirmed. Players can anticipate controlling a beaver in Warsongs when it launches this fall, with mount systems expected around the same time.
Senior community manager Sarah Asselin emphasized that incorporating the beaver gameplay was an important decision for narrative immersion, especially as it coincided with the unveiling of the Warsongs title. "Being able to play as the beaver and add that into the fable rather than just cutscene after cutscene was an important decision and hopefully a more immersive one," Asselin said.
Asselin reassured the community about the character's well-being: "I know I was very upset when I first saw it because I was very worried for Mr. Beaver, but the beaver will be okay." The beaver shown being shot with an arrow is presumed to be the same one later depicted with a blue handprint on its side in the game.
Soulframe is currently undergoing pre-alpha playtests for PC, with access granted to those who sign up during TennoCon.
