Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 has received a significant pair of updates, adding a formidable new enemy to its co-op operations and enabling Steam Workshop support for extensive modding. The Confrontation Update, also known as Patch 14, introduces new challenges for both cooperative and competitive players.
For those engaging in the game's cooperative Operations mode, a new miniboss enemy has been added: the Scarab Occult Terminator Sorcerer. This elite foe is equipped with a variety of dangerous abilities, including the power to create duplicates of himself, teleport across the battlefield, and unleash a potent laser beam attack. The Sorcerer is designed to provide a significant challenge to even veteran players.
The Confrontation Update also bolsters the game's PvP mode, Eternal War, with the addition of two new arenas. Sanctum offers a medium-sized map, while Facility is described as one of the most compact PvP maps available. Accompanying these new maps are weekly PvP rewards, encouraging players to participate in matches and complete challenges to earn cosmetic items and other in-game bonuses.
Beyond the official content, a separate update has integrated Steam Workshop support, paving the way for a surge of player-created mods. Early mods are already appearing, with the Astartes Overhaul being a notable example. This overhaul, previously available on NexusMods, rebalances the game's operations, introduces new weapons such as the Assault Bolter and Artifex Bolt Rifle, and adds new customization options. It also brings three new playable classes: Terminator, Chaplain, and Apothecary.
Other mods built upon the Astartes Overhaul offer further gameplay tweaks, including additional execution animations and the ability to form squads of six or even nine players. Non-Astartes mods are also emerging, such as "Health on Executions," which enhances the effect of finishing moves to be more akin to Doom's glory kills, and "Rogue Trader Tyranids," which adjusts the Tyranid enemies to more closely resemble their original 1985 design.
Saber Interactive has confirmed its commitment to continued support for Space Marine 2, with plans for at least another year of updates. A detailed roadmap outlining future content will be revealed on the game's second anniversary in September.
