Square Enix is likely to invest more in new game development than in remakes moving forward, according to Yoshinori Kitase, producer of the Final Fantasy VII Remake series and brand manager for the franchise. In an interview, Kitase explained that while the company might undertake remakes for specific reasons, such as strong creative attachment to original projects like Final Fantasy VII, its primary focus will be on creating new titles.

Kitase also discussed the unique appeal of the Final Fantasy series, citing character development and a blend of European and Japanese cultural influences as key factors in its enduring popularity. He expressed openness to future adaptations of Square Enix titles, suggesting that games or TV series inspired by Final Fantasy stories could be a possibility.

Regarding new game development, Kitase noted the growing popularity of action-focused games among younger audiences. He indicated a potential interest in exploring this genre for future projects, provided they retain the narrative characteristics that define the Final Fantasy series. He also shared his personal attachment to Final Fantasy VII, having worked on it since its original 1997 release.

Kitase also commented on other games that draw inspiration from Final Fantasy, such as Clair Obscure: Expedition 33, expressing happiness that developers are inspired by the series. He revealed that specific elements in Final Fantasy VI and Final Fantasy X were directly inspired by Star Wars, including character names and the concept of incorporating sports within a fantasy setting.
