Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl is set to receive its significant 2.0 update next week, developer GSC Game World announced. This free update introduces a range of improvements, including a visual overhaul with more realistic indoor lighting, natural-looking landscapes and foliage, and the correction of numerous floating items.

The game's A-Life system has also been enhanced to simulate more believable behaviors within the Zone. Creatures will have more varied locations to inhabit, and points of interest like campfires and bus stops will be more frequently contested by stalkers and mutants. The system will also ensure that stalkers loot fallen enemies more consistently, even when the player is not present.

A new custom rules feature will allow players to fine-tune various game elements. This includes options to toggle tutorials, adjust loot density, set the difficulty for both human NPCs and mutants, and control the overall hazard level of the Zone. Existing modes like Master difficulty and Expedition mode will remain available.

Fog will now serve a functional purpose beyond aesthetics, affecting both player and enemy visibility and audibility, allowing for stealthier gameplay or simply enhancing the atmosphere. The Light Rainy weather scenario has also been reworked for a more visually striking experience.

The update will also add three types of binoculars, along with new weapons and scopes. A new PDA page will provide players with detailed statistics, such as their favorite weapon and kill counts. Additionally, the Zone Kit, the game's official modding tool, will receive new features for narrative scripting, audio, and localization.

The 2.0 update is scheduled to launch on August 20th, coinciding with the release of the game's Cost of Hope expansion. The update will be free for all owners of Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl.
