Two entries in Square Enix's Star Ocean JRPG series, The Divine Force and The Second Story R, have been released on GOG, the digital storefront known for its commitment to DRM-free games. This marks the debut of these titles on GOG, though both have been available on Steam for some time.
Notably, the original PC release for the series, Star Ocean – The Last Hope – 4K and Full HD Remaster, is not currently available on the platform. This absence is ironic given GOG's focus on older titles. Both The Divine Force and The Second Story R have been added to GOG's Preservation Program, ensuring their continued compatibility with modern operating systems.
GOG has also announced that it is actively developing Linux support for its Galaxy launcher. In response to growing interest in Linux gaming, evidenced by Steam's Linux user base exceeding 5% in April, GOG is investing resources into this effort. "We now have the specialist on board and are actively exploring the best way to approach Linux support for GOG Galaxy," a GOG representative stated, acknowledging the significant undertaking involved and the ongoing community requests for such features.
