The early access colony simulation game Stardeus has received a significant update, representing approximately a year of development and introducing a host of new features and revisions. Developer Kodo Linija stated that the update includes over 1,500 individual changes, with the developer noting that "hardly a system in the game that wasn't rebuilt, reworked or expanded."
Stardeus, which tasks players with managing an AI aboard a damaged interstellar colony ship, now features a quest system and an improved tutorial. Players can form alliances with other starfaring factions. New additions also include the possibility of lifelong injury from failed surgeries and the option to embrace the role of an 'evil AI' capable of mind-controlling the crew via beta waves.
The update introduces a new user interface and ship aesthetic, alongside a trust system designed to influence the likelihood of mutiny. The colonist skill system has been revised, and ground combat has been reworked to incorporate elements such as cover, suppression, stuns, and fleeing. Space combat has also been adjusted to focus on managing 'Flux,' a resource generated by firing weapons or taking shield damage.
Rock Paper Shotgun previously described Stardeus in 2022 as "a pleasant blend of interesting ideas that generate a mostly relaxing vibe," noting its Rimworld-inspired gameplay. The game's full 1.0 release is anticipated around the first quarter of 2027.
