Brotherwise Games is preparing to launch Stormlight: War for Roshar, an epic asymmetric board game based on Brandon Sanderson's popular Stormlight Archive series. The game is designed by John D. Clair, known for his work on Mystic Vale, and is slated for a Kickstarter campaign this fall. This project follows Brotherwise Games' previous adaptations of Sanderson's work, including Mistborn: The Deckbuilding Game and The Cosmere Roleplaying Game.

War for Roshar aims to capture the grand scale of the books, allowing players to embody heroes and villains from the series. Notable characters such as Dalinar, Kaladin, Raboniel, and Taravangian will be playable, pitting the Knights Radiant against the forces of Odium. Brotherwise CEO Chris O’Neal stated that the game allows players to perform heroic actions with main characters while simultaneously influencing the strategic landscape with armies and diplomacy.

The game mechanics are designed for complex strategic play, drawing comparisons to established titles like Star Wars: Rebellion and the Lord of the Rings board game War of the Ring. War for Roshar supports various player counts, including one-on-one, two-player teams, and a three-versus-one scenario. Each game session spans eight rounds, dictated by the movement of the Highstorm and Everstorm, weather phenomena aligned with the game's two primary factions. Players will need to balance multiple objectives, such as upgrading leaders, deploying units, recruiting neutral allies, engaging in territorial combat, and utilizing powerful action cards. A key strategic element involves controlling Oathgates, which facilitate rapid army deployment across the world of Roshar, alongside pursuing secondary objectives.

The upcoming Kickstarter campaign will offer the base game, deluxe components, and a Champions mini-expansion. Additionally, Brotherwise Games plans to release miniatures for the Cosmere TTRPG, featuring characters from both Mistborn and the Stormlight Archive. While these adaptations are still in development, War for Roshar is expected to be available to experience next year, providing a new way for fans to engage with Sanderson's expansive fantasy universe.
