Starting tomorrow, players of the early access survival sequel Subnautica 2 will have new options for dealing with the game's aggressive alien fish. While the ability to kill these creatures remains unavailable, a forthcoming 1.1 update will introduce a stun system.
Creative director Anthony Gallegos revealed the changes in a recent update vlog, explaining that the sonic resonator tool has been enhanced to include stun states for several creatures. When struck with the resonator, these creatures will become visibly stunned and temporarily incapacitated, sinking slowly to the seabed. This offers a non-lethal but cathartic response to hostile encounters. Players will also notice improved "flinch" reactions when hitting creatures with the survival multi-tool, providing clearer feedback on player impact before the creature flees.
Creature Behavior Adjustments
The blight creatures, which can be defeated with the sonic resonator, have also seen adjustments. The update aims to create a more discernible transition from passive to aggressive behavior when players encounter these creatures near angel combs. This change is intended to reduce player surprise during creature attacks, a point of feedback the development team has noted.
These modifications are part of an ongoing effort to implement creature mitigation strategies that align with player expectations. While the stun system and creature flinches are included in the 1.1 update, Gallegos confirmed that new multiplayer features, such as proximity chat and a player revive system, will arrive in subsequent updates, expected some weeks after the initial patch. A larger content drop is planned for later this year, promising to add a new region, vehicles, and story elements to Subnautica 2.
