Bandai Namco is bringing the 2000 PlayStation RPG Tales of Eternia to modern platforms and PC on October 16. This release is part of the ongoing "Tales Remaster Project," which has already seen the return of Tales of Graces f, Tales of Xillia, and Tales of Berseria. The upcoming remaster will be available on Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X.
For those unfamiliar with the title, Tales of Eternia was released outside of Japan in 2001 under the name Tales of Destiny 2. This renaming was a marketing decision by Bandai to indicate its place within the "Tales" series, despite not being a direct sequel. The game follows Reid, a young hunter who encounters Meredy, a mysterious girl from another dimension. Together with their companions, they embark on an adventure that involves a conflict between two parallel worlds, Celestia and its counterpart.
The remaster aims to capture the original experience while offering modern conveniences. Players will have the ability to switch between remastered visuals and sound effects and the original presentation at any time. Quality-of-life improvements are also included, such as increased experience gain, adjustable battle speed, customizable encounter rates, and optional destination icons to aid navigation. The game also features anime cutscenes and refreshed pixel art.
Tales of Eternia Remastered is positioned as an option for players seeking an RPG experience between major upcoming releases such as Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave in September and Final Fantasy 7 Revelation next spring.
