Digital Extremes used its annual TennoCon event to showcase significant upcoming content for both Warframe and its new fantasy title, Soulframe. The developer provided an in-depth look at Warframe's next major narrative expansion, "Tau," and revealed new details about Soulframe's evolving storyline and gameplay features.

Warframe: Tau Expansion Detailed

The highlight of TennoCon 2026 was "Warframe: Tau," a new major Narrative Chapter that will allow players to explore the Tau System. This new star chart features the Sentient ring city of Fornax, a region plagued by constant rain, internal criminal faction conflicts, and the rule of a crime boss named The Hunra. Players will be tasked with dismantling this criminal network. The expansion is slated for release later this year.

To aid players in this new endeavor, a new Chimera Warframe named Brysko will be introduced. Described as a sentient Warframe with a hard-boiled detective aesthetic, Brysko's abilities include brass knuckle attacks, explosive playing cards, and an Exalted revolver. The update also introduces "Portau," a new sentient card game playable within Warframe, which blends poker rules with unique game elements.

New enemies called Fornax Drowners will also challenge players. These evolved Sentients are said to be more dangerous than those previously encountered in the Origin System. The Fornax environment itself will feature locations such as high-end casinos, shipping docks, and dilapidated slums.

In a crossover event, Warframe is collaborating with Fortnite. Fortnite players can now obtain an Excalibur outfit cosmetic, with certain in-game item purchases granting the skin for free.

Ahead of the "Tau" expansion, Warframe will receive several other updates. The "Iceblade of Narin" will add a new story quest, a new location, and an ice-elemental Warframe. This update also includes a customizable Orokin vessel for travel to the Tau galaxy, reworks for several Warframes, and new Nightwave missions.

Soulframe's Narrative and Gameplay Updates

While still in alpha, Soulframe received a closer look at its fantasy-themed world and upcoming features. A new trailer showcased the encroaching blight affecting the world and teased the "Warsongs" missions. This questline, scheduled for release later this year, will provide narrative exposition and set the stage for Soulframe's main campaign. The new arc features voice talents Ben Starr as the antagonist Tempest Bayor and Jennifer English as the player ally Empress of Eidvel, both of whom previously worked on Expedition 33.

Digital Extremes also confirmed that mounts are coming to Soulframe, alongside a "Vegan Fishing" activity. The developer continues to focus on quality-of-life improvements as the game progresses toward wider release.
