A mod for The Blood of Dawnwalker has been released that extends the game's 30-day main quest timer to 90 days, effectively tripling the time players have to rescue protagonist Coen's family from a vampiric dictator. This mod addresses concerns for players who feel pressured by the original timer, allowing for a more relaxed pace of exploration and side-quest completion.
The mod, titled 'Better Story Timer', was developed by a modder known as Caites. It significantly increases the time available for the main objective, which involves saving Coen's family from a vampiric leader who is slowly draining them of blood. The original 30-day limit may feel restrictive for some, even though the mod's creator noted that they personally completed the main quest with time to spare while playing under review deadlines.
In addition to the main timer extension, 'Better Story Timer' offers an optional file that removes the time cost associated with applying perk points earned upon leveling up. This means players can improve skills and unlock abilities at shrines without sacrificing in-game time segments. While improving a single perk or ability typically costs only one or two time segments, the cumulative effect could be noticeable for players who frequently upgrade their characters.
Caites also developed a separate experimental file that aims to stretch the game's eight-segment day-night cycle to 32 segments. However, this feature has not been fully tested and is not recommended for general use at this time. The modder also noted that the 90-day timer boost can be adjusted by editing the game's INI file for those comfortable with modifying game configurations.
Modifying core game mechanics like timers can introduce potential issues into a playthrough. It is advisable for players to experience the vanilla timer first to determine if the default pacing of The Blood of Dawnwalker suits their playstyle before implementing mods.
