Xbox CEO Asha Sharma has offered a tantalizing glimpse into the development of The Elder Scrolls 6, suggesting the game may feature an eight-letter subtitle and confirming she has witnessed a "live playthrough." The update comes more than eight years after the game's initial announcement, positioning it as one of Microsoft's most significant upcoming titles.
Sharma's remarks, shared via social media, stated, "The scale and grandeur are incredible. The story is even greater." While these comments are broad, the inclusion of an eight-character string of asterisks has led to widespread speculation that she was deliberately teasing the game's subtitle. Historically, every main entry in The Elder Scrolls series has included a subtitle, such as Arena, Daggerfall, Morrowind, Oblivion, and Skyrim.
This news follows a recent update from Bethesda in July, which acknowledged the "very long wait for the sequel." The studio conveyed that "The next chapter is on the way. We’re where we planned to be, loving how it looks, and playing it every day." This statement was issued amid significant upheaval at Xbox, including mass layoffs that also affected Bethesda. Staff at Bethesda had previously expressed concerns about the potential for further delays to The Elder Scrolls 6 and the impact of these layoffs on studio morale.
The Elder Scrolls 6 is one of several new games in development at Bethesda and its associated studios. Other projects include remasters of Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas, with Obsidian reportedly working on a new Fallout title, and Fallout 5 also confirmed to be in development.
