The Elder Scrolls Online will see several significant content updates delayed to 2027, a consequence of recent organizational restructuring and layoffs at Xbox-owned studios. Game director Nick Giacomini confirmed in a blog post that the game is not shutting down and that the development team remains committed to its future.

"ESO is here to stay, and our team is dedicated to the future of this game. Our focus hasn't changed. It is continuing to grow The Elder Scrolls Online and build upon the world millions of players call home," Giacomini stated. The delays are intended to ensure that complex additions, such as the new Crimson Veldt trial and a class and combat refresh, meet a satisfactory quality standard. Update 52 will also be pushed back to 2027.

While these major updates are postponed, ZeniMax Online Studios plans to release new stories, quests, and events throughout the fall of 2026. These releases will include a new rumor system and quality-of-life upgrades, rolling out as part of Season 1 and Season 2 in September and October. The studio is also fostering closer collaboration with Bethesda Game Studios on the broader Elder Scrolls intellectual property. This partnership is expected to allow for shared ideas and improved player experiences across the franchise, potentially including contributions to the development of The Elder Scrolls 6.

In parallel, Bethesda continues to support the Fallout series with remasters of Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas in development, as well as a new title from Obsidian Entertainment. Pre-production has also begun on Fallout 5, positioning it as a project for the team after the completion of The Elder Scrolls 6.
