Owlcat Games has unveiled a new trailer for its upcoming science fiction role-playing game, The Expanse: Osiris Reborn, during Gamescom's Find Your Next Game showcase. The trailer prominently features Project Caliban, one of the most formidable antagonists from the television series and the books it is based upon.

In The Expanse universe, Project Caliban was a clandestine operation by the company Protogen, aimed at weaponizing the newly discovered Protomolecule. The experiment's outcomes were disastrous and horrifying. The latest trailer suggests that players in Osiris Reborn will confront both Protogen's operatives and a human test subject mutated by the Protomolecule, mirroring the hybrid form seen in the second season of the TV show.

Visually, the Protomolecule's depiction in Osiris Reborn appears to draw heavily from its appearance in the television series, characterized by a vibrant, glowing blue. This contrasts with the book's description of the Protomolecule as a slimy, brownish substance.

The trailer also offers a glimpse of the female player character, referred to as "the Captain," navigating a Protogen facility on Ganymede. Players will have the option to choose a male protagonist as well. Following feedback regarding the original male player character's voice acting from the game's April 2026 beta test, Owlcat Games has reportedly recast the role, which may explain the character's silent presence in the new trailer.

The Expanse: Osiris Reborn is slated for release in the second quarter of 2027 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. The game is currently available to wishlist on Steam.
