The planned real-time strategy game set in the world of Game of Thrones, titled War for Westeros, has been delayed. Developer Playside announced that the PC title, which was originally slated for a 2026 release, will now launch in early 2027. This marks a shift from the previously announced timeframe.

"We remain unwavering in our mission to deliver a real-time strategy game set in the world of Westeros that meets the expectations of both RTS players and Game of Thrones fans," Playside stated in a blog post. The studio emphasized that the delay is intended to provide the necessary time to achieve the desired level of quality for the ambitious project. "This decision gives us the time needed to continue building towards that goal and ensure that the game reaches the high level of quality we are aiming for," the developer added, thanking players for their patience.

War for Westeros was announced in 2025 and allows players to command one of the franchise's prominent Houses—Stark, Targaryen, or Lannister—or the Night King, with the ultimate objective of conquering the Seven Kingdoms. The game is set to feature both a single-player campaign and multiplayer modes. Playside has indicated that a key design goal is to immerse players in the experience of the television series.

The Game of Thrones intellectual property is managed by Warner Bros. Discovery, a company reportedly in the process of being acquired by Paramount for over $100 billion. Warner Bros. management has reportedly identified Game of Thrones as one of four major franchises that will be central to its future gaming initiatives, alongside Harry Potter, Mortal Kombat, and DC.
