The creator behind The Witcher 3 HD Reworked, a popular mod credited with significantly enhancing the game's visuals, has joined CD Projekt Red to work on the upcoming remastered version of the title. This collaboration means the original mod will no longer be necessary for players seeking an improved graphical experience.

HalkHogan, the modder responsible for the extensive HD Reworked project, confirmed his involvement. His work has been officially integrated into The Witcher 3 Remastered, which is set to release on PC and consoles on September 29. The mod has seen immense popularity, with over 325,000 unique downloads for its later version and a staggering 1.7 million unique downloads for its earlier "OldGen" iteration. The project involved upscaling and remodelling thousands of textures and models throughout the game.

CD Projekt Red executive producer Jakub Kutrzuba highlighted the integration of this mod, referring to it as "the most popular mod on Nexus mod." He stated that it brings "great visual improvement across the whole game" with upgraded textures and meshes. Initial previews of the remastered version, such as those seen during Gamescom 2026, suggest a substantial visual upgrade, with environments described as gorgeous from all angles.

The official integration of HalkHogan's work into The Witcher 3 Remastered signifies a notable moment where community contributions are directly incorporated into a major title's official enhancement, rendering popular fan-made improvements obsolete by their official, enhanced counterparts.
