CD Projekt Red has announced that The Witcher 3 Remastered will launch on September 29. The enhanced version will be provided as a free upgrade to all existing owners of the game on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. The announcement was made during Gamescom's Opening Night Live, revealing a comprehensive list of improvements and new features.

While the original Nintendo Switch version will not receive an upgrade, a new version of The Witcher 3 Remastered specifically designed for the Nintendo Switch 2 will be available for purchase, with owners of the original Switch version eligible to claim it for free. The remastered game will also mark its debut on PC via Battle.net, where purchasing it will unlock a Geralt-themed cosmetic skin for Diablo 4.

Additionally, both the remastered version and the current iteration of The Witcher 3 will include access to the game's first two expansions at no extra cost. This comes ahead of the upcoming third expansion, Songs of the Past, which is slated for a 2027 release.

The remastered edition introduces a suite of major gameplay and visual enhancements. These include refined combat mechanics, improved traversal and movement systems, revamped mount handling, and more sophisticated monster behaviors. Players can also expect a skill tree overhaul, armor transmog options, an expanded photo mode, and new finishing animations.

Further additions encompass the long-awaited cross-platform mod support, updated quest tracking, immersive meditation features, refined animations, user interface improvements, a rework of the looting system, and refreshed motion blur effects. The game will also benefit from new accessibility options, a modernized tutorial, HDR enhancements, a reworked foliage shading system, ray-tracing improvements, a global lighting rework, a new shading model, subsurface scattering, and a new tone mapper.

Technical enhancements targeted for specific platforms include PlayStation 5 Pro support, Xbox Play Anywhere functionality, and unspecified exclusive features for the Nintendo Switch 2. PC players will benefit from Nvidia DLSS 4.5, AMD FSR 4, Intel XESS 2.0, path tracing, and ray reconstruction, with ray-traced hair also being implemented. The game will feature native DX12 support and rendering parallelization.

Regarding future content, it was recently confirmed that Songs of the Past will incorporate additional Gwent card game elements. CD Projekt Red has also provided an update on the highly anticipated Ciri-centric sequel, The Witcher 4, confirming it is targeting a 2028 release window. The studio stated that over 500 developers are working on the project, describing it as their most ambitious game to date.
