CD Projekt Red has assured players that The Witcher 3 Remastered will perform capably on the Steam Deck. Jakub Kutrzuba, executive producer of external projects at the studio, told PC Gamer that general optimization improvements accompanying the new rendering engine will ensure the game runs as well as its original version, while significantly enhancing its visual presentation. "When it comes to Steam Deck, based on what we see, the game will work the same way, but look much much better," Kutrzuba stated. He explained that the upgraded engine allows for more hardware budget to be allocated to new assets and textures, with many systems operating faster. This means a more visually appealing game can be delivered without an increased performance cost, a benefit also expected for the Nintendo Switch 2. The development team appears to have learned from earlier performance issues with titles like Cyberpunk 2077, aiming for a polished experience with The Witcher 3 Remastered, allowing players to explore its beautified world without concerns over frame rate drops. The remaster is also expected to be a free update for existing owners of the game.
