CD Projekt Red has announced that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered will be released on September 29 and will be offered as a free upgrade to all players who already own the game on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, or PC. This upgrade applies even to players who own the original PlayStation 4 or Xbox One versions. Additionally, the two major expansions for The Witcher 3, Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine, are now available for free to all owners of the base game.

Upgrading on PlayStation and Xbox

For PlayStation owners, any existing copy of The Witcher 3 on PS4 or PS5 will grant a free remastered version on September 29. The two expansions, Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine, have been delisted from the PlayStation Store and are expected to return, likely integrated into the base game or available for free to existing owners. Players looking to acquire the remaster on PS5 without owning the game can find used copies of the base PS4 version, which are currently priced at $6.99 at GameStop, to qualify for the free upgrade.

Xbox players with any version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt on Xbox will also receive the remastered edition for free on the Xbox Store starting September 29. The expansions are already free on the Xbox Store for base game owners. While the remastered edition is exclusive to Series X|S, Xbox One owners with the base game can still access the free expansions. For those without the base game on Xbox Series X|S, a used copy of the Xbox One version, available for $4.99 at GameStop, can be used to secure the free remaster upgrade upon updating the game.

PC Upgrades and New Content

On PC, owners of any version of The Witcher 3 on Steam will find The Witcher 3 - Complete Edition in their library, which includes both expansions. It is anticipated that this version will update to the Remastered edition on September 29. The remastered version will also be available on Battle.net, with preorders open now. Purchasing the expansion on Blizzard's platform will unlock a special Geralt-inspired skin in Diablo 4.

The remastered version introduces several enhancements, including graphical improvements, refined combat and movement mechanics, better mount handling, and an updated photo mode. New enemy behaviors and Geralt's new finishers are also part of the update. A revamped skill tree and armor transmogrification, allowing players to maintain the appearance of one armor piece while benefiting from the stats of another, are also included.

CD Projekt Red also revealed a new trailer for an upcoming expansion titled 'Songs of Past.' While a specific release date has not been announced, it is slated for a 2027 release. This expansion is intended to bridge the narrative from Geralt to Ciri, who will be the central character in The Witcher 4, currently targeting a 2028 release.
