CD Projekt has confirmed that existing save files for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will be compatible with the game's upcoming remastered edition. This means players can seamlessly continue their adventures on the Path without losing progress. The developer shared this information via a post on X/Twitter in response to fan inquiries.

This save file compatibility extends to all platforms, including Nintendo Switch owners upgrading to the remastered version on the Nintendo Switch 2. The upgrade itself will be free for existing owners across all platforms. For players who have yet to experience everything the game has to offer, this news is particularly welcome, especially considering the base game now includes access to its two major expansions, Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine. These expansions are recommended before the release of the game's belated third expansion, Songs of the Past, which is slated for 2027.

Achievement and trophy hunters will also find good news. CD Projekt has stated that progress made towards any unlocked awards will be tracked and carried over to the remastered edition. While this might be expected if the upgraded version is treated as a straightforward update on supported platforms, its confirmation is a welcome detail.

The Witcher 3 Remastered was announced last week, promising a host of new features and technical improvements. These include long-awaited cross-platform mod support, a new quest tracking system, immersive meditation, refined animations, UI enhancements, and a reworked looting system, among other additions. The remastered version is scheduled to launch on September 29 and will become the default offering for the game. While the price has seen a slight increase, it is likely to reflect the inclusion of the game's expansions.
