CD Projekt Red has offered a first glimpse at the gameplay for "Songs of the Past," the upcoming expansion for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. The reveal trailer prominently features Geralt of Rivia utilizing a new chain weapon, capable of pulling enemies towards him for swift elimination. This addition to Geralt's arsenal could significantly alter combat encounters, offering an alternative to his usual dodging and rolling maneuvers.
This novel weapon, which appears to have originated from an early concept shown in the first Witcher game's opening cinematic from 2007, is designed for snagging and dismembering monsters. The expansion is set to introduce players to a new region called Letten, described by CD Projekt Red level design lead Miles Tost as an idyllic land concealing a dark secret that Geralt will uncover, partly through combat.
"Songs of the Past" is slated for release in 2027, marking Geralt's final adventure before the studio shifts focus to Ciri in the forthcoming "The Witcher 4," which is anticipated in 2028. Prior to this expansion, players can look forward to a free remaster upgrade for the base game arriving this fall.
