CD Projekt Red has announced that the first footage from The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt's "Songs of the Past" expansion will be shown during Gamescom's Opening Night Live stream. The showcase is scheduled to take place on August 25.

Opening Night Live, hosted by Geoff Keighley in Cologne, Germany, is a significant event in the gaming calendar, alongside The Game Awards and Summer Game Fest. The event will be livestreamed globally, with the broadcast beginning at 11 a.m. PT / 2 p.m. ET / 8 p.m. CEST.

"Songs of the Past" was announced earlier this year and is being developed in collaboration with Fools Theory, the studio also handling the remake of the original Witcher game. The expansion is slated for release in 2027 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. Details about the expansion's content remain scarce.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, originally released over a decade ago, is widely acclaimed for its expansive open world, engaging side quests, and substantial expansions. Following its success, CD Projekt Red shifted focus to Cyberpunk 2077 and its "Phantom Liberty" expansion. The studio is also confirmed to be working on "The Witcher 4," which is expected to star Ciri, Geralt's adopted daughter. It remains to be seen if "Songs of the Past" will connect to the narrative of the next mainline Witcher title.

Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, a former director on The Witcher 3, has since departed CD Projekt Red and is now involved with "The Blood of Dawnwalker," a new vampiric action RPG that shares thematic elements with The Witcher series.
