CD Projekt RED has offered a glimpse into the future of The Witcher franchise, confirming that the next major installment, widely referred to as The Witcher 4, is currently targeting a 2028 release window. The announcement was made in a video released ahead of Gamescom.

Company joint-CEO Michał Nowakowski stated that while CD Projekt RED will not be showcasing The Witcher 4 at the event, it will be featuring the upcoming Witcher 3: Wild Hunt DLC, 'Songs of the Past.' This expansion is slated for release next year, providing existing fans with new content sooner than the next main series entry.

Nowakowski indicated that CD Projekt RED is not yet ready to provide a precise launch date for The Witcher 4. However, the 2028 target offers a clearer outlook for the highly anticipated, Ciri-led open-world RPG. Fans will have opportunities to learn more about 'Songs of the Past' through livestreams during Gamescom, which runs from August 25 to 30. Nowakowski also hinted that there might be "a surprise or two" during these broadcasts, though it remains unclear if any of these surprises will pertain to The Witcher 4.

The upcoming title is expected to continue the narrative established in The Witcher series, with a focus on Ciri. While details remain scarce, the confirmation of a release window provides a concrete timeframe for the project's development and eventual launch.
