A new city-building game, Thveit, is set to launch in early access, offering players a unique take on the genre by integrating Norse folklore and dynamic seasonal changes.
The game begins with a small group of villagers establishing a settlement in a forest clearing. Players will guide their development, managing resources and assigning villagers to tasks such as growing crops and tending livestock. While featuring familiar city-builder mechanics, Thveit distinguishes itself with its emphasis on seasonal cycles and the integration of mythical creatures.
Seasonal changes directly impact gameplay, requiring players to prepare for survival. Spring is a period for harvesting, summer for construction, autumn for storing essential resources like food, clothing, and fuel, and winter serves as a test of the preparations made in the preceding seasons. Success hinges on ensuring villagers remain fed, warm, and adequately clothed throughout the year.
Beyond seasonal challenges, Thveit introduces Norse folklore elements. Players will encounter various mythical creatures, some of which will require accommodation within the village. This might involve constructing troll dens or hatching dragon eggs. Establishing places of worship, such as shrines dedicated to the gods, is also a feature. These creatures, like trolls, have their own needs, but aiding them can yield benefits, such as assistance with heavy labor like transporting wood and stone.
Thveit is currently preparing for its early access release, with a specific launch date yet to be announced. The game will be available on Steam.
