Todd Howard, the head of Bethesda Game Studios (BGS), has shared significant updates regarding the studio's upcoming projects and recent organizational changes. In separate interviews, Howard confirmed that The Elder Scrolls 6 is progressing well and remains Bethesda's primary focus.
"The Elder Scrolls 6 is where we planned it to be, loving how it looks, and playing every day," Howard stated, indicating a steady development pace for the highly anticipated title. While no release window or specific details were provided, the game's development is active.
Regarding the Fallout series, Howard revealed that Fallout 5 is currently in pre-production. He also confirmed that remakes of Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas are planned, though release dates for these projects are also unannounced. "There's a huge amount of mutual respect" between Bethesda and Obsidian Entertainment, Howard noted, confirming that Obsidian is returning to the Fallout franchise with a new spin-off title, though details remain scarce.
Bethesda's live-service space exploration game, Starfield, is set to receive further content. Howard announced that a downloadable content expansion called "Starborn" is in development. Additionally, the game will benefit from enhanced Creation Club tools and features, underscoring Starfield's role in BGS's future strategy.
Howard also addressed the recent Xbox layoffs, describing them as a difficult period for the company. He drew parallels to past challenges faced by Bethesda, including near-bankruptcy in the 1990s, and emphasized that the current changes are aimed at focusing the studio's efforts on its core franchises and future deliverables.
Further content is also planned for Fallout 76. A substantial DLC, "Raven Rock," is slated for release next year and will function as a prequel to Fallout 3. ZeniMax Online Studios (ZOS) will continue to support The Elder Scrolls franchise in a collaborative capacity with BGS, while also developing additional seasons for The Elder Scrolls Online.
Looking ahead, Bethesda Game Studios is investing in its technological infrastructure and consolidating its teams to foster a more cohesive development environment. The studio is committed to supporting its ongoing live-service titles and developing the "next generation of Bethesda RPGs," with Howard expressing optimism about the future of its flagship franchises: Fallout, The Elder Scrolls, and Starfield.
