Beginning September 24, players will no longer need to own any of the previous Total War: Warhammer titles to access the sprawling Immortal Empires campaign. This accessibility update coincides with the launch of the 'Lords of the End Times' expansion for Total War: Warhammer 3.
Historically, entry into the massive Immortal Empires campaign, which amalgamates content from all three Total War: Warhammer games, required ownership of all preceding titles. This requirement was later reduced to owning Total War: Warhammer 3. The upcoming change simplifies access further, allowing any purchase of a 'Lords of the End Times' character pack to unlock the Immortal Empires campaign indefinitely. This effectively makes the massive campaign available for the price of a single expansion, approximately $9 (£7.49).
The 'Lords of the End Times' expansion itself introduces new playable factions and legendary lords, including Nagash and his undead legions, Boris Todbringer with his Middenland forces, the Glottkin's hordes, and Thanquol accompanied by his giant rat-ogre, Boneripper. While these new characters and their associated content will be playable, access to other expansion factions and lords within Immortal Empires will still require separate purchases.
With this update, the base Immortal Empires campaign offers a substantial amount of content, featuring 14 distinct factions and 24 legendary lords, in addition to free content like the Bretonnia faction. The shift aims to provide a more inviting entry point for new players to experience the series' most ambitious campaign map and gameplay experience, consolidating the vast offerings of the trilogy into a single, accessible package. The developers noted that while the base game's Realms of Chaos campaign is not included with this new access method, the extensive Immortal Empires map and its myriad of content make it a compelling offering for both newcomers and long-time fans looking for a unified experience. The change is positioned as an attractive proposition for those considering jumping into the Total War: Warhammer series.
